Trains in Luxembourg
Although small in size, with a population of just over five hundred thousand people, Luxembourg’s national railway network offers a full library of train options for visitors and regular train riders operated by the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (Luxembourg National Railway Company), or CFL.
Regional Trains in Luxembourg
The Luxembourg CFL handles not only many of the country’s train lines—such as the RegionalBahn, Interrigio, and Regional Express—but also many CFL bus lines.
International Trains in Luxembourg
Being a tiny nation, many of the trains passing through Luxembourg are actually operated by the rail services of its neighboring countries, including the IC trains which link Luxembourg with Belgium (operated by Belgium’s NMBS/SNCB), France (operated by SNCF, plus high-speed TGV trains to Paris), and Germany (operated by DB).
Reservations on Luxembourg Trains
CFL trains and buses do not require reservations. The InterCity trains don’t require them either but you can make reservations if you want to make sure you get a seat. It is highly recommended to make reservations on the high-speed rail trains (IC and TGV).
